"Mary Conner was still lying flat on her stomach when a wave picked her
surfboard up, sweeping it powerfully towards the shore. It did not matter
that she was not standing. The 20-year-old had caught her first wave,
something she had watched her brother accomplish regularly, but never
imagined she would do.

So far, over 70 people with disabilities have been surfing or canoeing, an
experience most of them would never had access to in their entire lives,
despite living right next to the ocean.

After the surf event, Mary wrote a
letter to the volunteers, thanking
them for making her a Hollywood
Movie Star for the day, and for
treating her with such respect.
